Hey guys, my name is Megan Kennedy. I am a junior at the University of Redlands and am studying Communication Sciences and Disorders with the hopes of going to graduate school in San Diego and becoming an Audiologist. I grew up in the small town of Grass Valley in Northern California where I have some previous radio experience at KNCO Newstalk 830 as an intern. I worked with the news talk side of radio at KNCO and am here at KDAWG to expand my experience to music radio! I love many kinds of music, but my favorite genre is rock - I enjoy the massive energy it gives off! I cannot wait to see what these next couple of years will hold, both at the radio station and in life.
Whats Good y'all,
My name is Marcus Garcia A.K.A. ‘GROOVY’, I am a Johnston Senior from Fontana, Ca with an emphasis in ‘Social Activism and Civic Leadership for the Youth.’ I am the host for ‘GROOVY Radio’, a radio show that discusses racial dynamics and racial stories through people, places, and spaces in efforts to humanize race.
I joined KDAWG Radio this semester, Fall 2017, and I am also currently a DUDES Program intern (Dudes Understanding Diversity and Ending Stereotypes) housed in CDI (Campus Diversity and Inclusion).
This year it is my goal to utilize KDAWG’s resources to display more stories about race in correlation to the leaders of color on this campus and also the communities that the university neighbors, the cities within The Inland Empire, in efforts to create more fruitful discussion and thought.
If you have any questions or comments feel encouraged to contact The Boy atMarcus_Garcia@redlands.edu or just hit me up if/when you see me around campus.
Hey Everyone! My name is Malia and I am a senior here at the University of Redlands. This is my third year working at KDAWG, and I have the great honor to be the Sports Director! I am a Media and Visual Culture studies major and a Spanish minor with hopes of working for a league front office in the future. Anyone who knows me knows that I live for learning, talking and watching sports, whether it be attending actual games or checking scores during and after class. Although I am from the Bay Area, I am a diehard LA sports fan; two of my favorite teams are the Dodgers and the Lakers.
At KDAWG, I have had the opportunity to travel to New York as one of the representatives for the station as well as help produce many types of sports shows including co-hosting a few of my own. When I am not in KDAWG, I am working tirelessly to perfect my personal statement for grad school in addition to many other activities on campus such as being a part of my sorority, Alpha Chi Delta, being a co-President for our Art Honor society, Kappa Pi and being a mentor for CHAMPS.
Joining KDAWG my sophomore year has been a great experience thus far and I haven’t looked back. Although I will be graduating in April, I know the station is in great hands and we will continue to have an awesome and thriving sports department.
Hi everybody, Gilberto here - most of my friends know me by Gibby, though. I am a Creative Writing major and an English minor, and I am also working on getting my Single Subject teaching credentials (and I hope to work my way up to being a professor someday).
I am a sophomore and this is my second year with KDAWG, and I am very excited for this year because I just landed the role of Music Director! I first joined KDAWG just to give it a try, but it ended up being my favorite club, so it’s good to be back and working my way up here.
Aside from being the new music director, I am also an Overnight Admissions Host. I get to give tours and host prospective students - double the fun! When I’m not giving tours or responding to music submissions, you can probably catch me working on my writing in the library. I write a lot - I’m working on my second novel, and I have twenty-four more planned. I hope to be a published author someday, and hopefully I’ll even get a movie deal. I’d like to teach creative writing too, because I think it’s really cool to provide outlets for creativity. Other than that, I like to draw, paint, remix music and make mashups, watch Netflix, check out thrift shops, listen to new music, go on walks, try new things (especially anything outdoorsy), bug my friends, and cheer on my ad-host team during their intramural games.
KDAWG has been such a great place for me to spend my time at. The staff and club members are so kind and easy going. Plus, it’s awesome to have a place at school dedicated to music. Music has been so constant throughout my life - my dad is a pretty talented musician and singer, and I can’t remember a day that I haven’t heard the strumming of his guitar back home. He’s also a rodeo DJ with a traveling mariachi group, so it’s cool that we both work in music now. I am not as talented as my dad but I like to sing (even if I don’t have the voice for it). I am, however, giving writing music a try. My taste in music is pretty diverse - whether it’s rap, alt-pop, instrumentals, orchestral, indie, mainstream, whatever - I just like to say that I listen to whatever sounds nice. My playlists make people ask, “What song is this?” and I think people liking your music is one of the best feelings. KDAWG is the place to go if you ever just want to talk about music and be accepted. See ya around!
Hey everyone, my name is Eric and I am a senior here at the University of Redlands and this is my first year being part of KDAWG. My roommate Ben and I have been talking about doing a show for years now and we are finally putting one together. Along with the show, I am beyond thankful to have been picked to be the News Director for KDAWG. If anyone wants to or is thinking about doing a news show, talk to me about it.
Besides being in KDAWG, I am double majoring in Political Science and History. I have been keeping myself very busy by applying to law schools this year. Sports is definitely a passion for me and you can probably find me cheering on my teams (more like dealing with them losing) most of the week. I love fun facts of pretty much anything so if you see me around please feel free to drop some knowledge on me. Or ask me for some, up to you. I am the serious part of seriously satirical; or am I?
What’s good, Bulldogs!? My name is Kat and I am the Creative Director for KDAWG Radio! I am a Studio Art student concentrating in Painting/Drawing, and a double major in Media & Visual Culture Studies (I am also managing a minor in Art History, phew!). It’s my pleasure to bring my background in arts and media to the KDAWG station! I am a Junior at the university (Class of 2019, heyo!), and a transfer student as well. I am from San Francisco, and the close-knit, comfortable environment of Redlands has me feeling right at home! Even if it is a hundred degrees hotter than I’m used to.
Other than KDAWG, I work on campus managing the Painting Studio in Ann Peppers Hall, and I work the Ann Peppers Gallery on Fridays and Sundays. I’m always trying to expand my musical surroundings, as my twin and older brothers are both music nerds, so I’m usually listening to a new band or buying tickets to a concert.
Joining KDAWG has really been the cherry on top of my Redlands experience! The station staff are so nice and friendly that it was no problem joining the ranks of a member of the radio. When I was a kid, I always correlated a university education with college radio, and it is my intention to make this year of KDAWG a rockin’ one! Go Bulldogs!
Hi! My name is Taylor Rogers and I am a senior here at the University of Redlands. This is my fourth year in KDAWG and third year as the Social Media Director! I’m pursuing a B.A. in Psychology as well as my Multiple Subject Teaching Credentials in hopes to become an elementary school teacher soon! Prior to my revelation of wanting to be a teacher, I wanted to work behind the scenes in the music industry. Ever since I watched Pitch Perfect in high school, I knew I wanted to be a part of my school’s radio station. I wasn’t quite comfortable enough to be a DJ, but in line with my dreams in the music industry, behind the scenes was perfect for me!
I started off my freshman year as Assistant Social Media Director and quickly got promoted as my lead director left Redlands at the start of my sophomore year. It was a big leap, but I’m definitely grateful for the opportunity. I’ve learned so much about social media and radio culture through my time at the station.
Some of my hobbies include binge-watching shows on Netflix, going to the beach, and spending time with my sorority, Alpha Xi Omicron. In addition to KDAWG and Alpha Xi, I am involved in Omicron Delta Kappa, a leadership honors society on campus, Psi Chi, a psychology honors society, Order of Omega, another leadership honors circle, and I am a tutor at a local elementary school. Needless to say, I keep myself pretty busy along side classes.
Although my roles in KDAWG have not been very diverse, I have loved my time at the station. The little room on the far side of campus will always have a big spot in my heart. I will definitely miss my KDAWG fam after graduation this year.
Hello! My name is Phoebe, I’m a Junior, and I am very excited to say that I am KDAWG’s new Program Director this year! In case you don’t know what that title means I’ll give you the low down. Basically, I manage the DJ’s and deal with the station’s scheduling. I’d like to think that I’m good with technology. I am also majoring in Media and Visual Culture and minoring in Art at Redlands. This is only my second semester as a part of KDAWG, which makes me sad to think that I had three semesters before that missing out on so much! Before the spring semester of my Sophomore year, I was not very involved on campus. I then remembered about the radio station and thought it would be a perfect fit since media is a passion of mine. I filled out the application on the website, and a couple days later they were inviting me to a staff meeting! I was ecstatic to be a part of KDAWG! That first semester I did a couple behind the scenes operations: I assisted in filming and editing Inside the Studio, I posted some pictures on the station’s Instagram, and got to help produce an interview with 3oh!3! How cool, am I right?!! I knew I wanted to be a bigger part of the station though, which is why I applied for the Program Director position. And here we are today!
In my free time, you can find me being an entertainment fanatic. I don’t only keep up with the Kardashians, I also keep up with everything else going on in the industry! To be honest, I knew I wanted to go to school for media production because I have always been the biggest Ellen Degeneres fan, and vowed I would work for her one day…I’ll keep you all updated on how that dream works out. You can also find me cooking in my spare time. I mean trying new foods is always fun right?
KDAWG has truly been the highlight of my college years so far! I have learned so much about myself these last two semesters, and it is very inspiring. I have rediscovered my strong work ethic because of my desire to make the station the best it can be (suggestions on content are always welcome *wink wink*) I am so excited to see what our KDAWG team works up this year! Stay tuned!
Howdy, my name is William Malouf and I am a senior here at the University of Redlands. I am the Assistant Station Manager this year and look forward to helping students who are interested in television and radio. I joined during the spring semester 2017, quickly becoming director and producer for one of our talk-shows “Inside the Studio with Evan Sanford.” I was fortunate enough to meet plenty of interesting and important people, including a congresswoman, famous musician, senior military official, and our University’s President.
I am currently studying to get an International Relations major and History minor. I have always enjoyed traveling, writing, as well as meeting new and interesting people. I have found that entertainment, photography, and cinematography encapsulate those things I find so interesting. Some things I like to do in my free time are weightlifting, playing video games, marksmanship, photography, watching movies and spending time with my family.
This year I really want people to take advantage of the opportunities that KDAWG can provide them. I have spent a fair amount of time around cameras and have dedicated some of my responsibilities at KDAWG to the television and film side of things. Students who are interested in making short films, interested in doing on location interviews, or interviews in the studio, I have the knowledge to help you get these things accomplished.
